REMOVAL

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect distributor wiring connector.
3. Disconnect spark plug cables and secondary cable from distributor.
4. Disconnect vacuum hose from vacuum controller.
5. Remove distributor mounting nut then remove distributor assembly from cylinder head.

Figure 1 - Removing vacuum controller:

DISASSEMBLY

1. Remove retaining clips, and remove cap.
2. Remove rotor from rotor shaft.
3. Remove cover and seal ring.
4. Remove two vacuum controller installation screws.
5. Remove snap ring, and then remove vacuum controller.

Figure 2 - Removing signal rotor and stator:

6. Remove signal rotor shaft tightening screw and two stator installation screws.
7. Remove the signal rotor shaft and stator assembly. When stator assembly has been removed, be sure that it is not placed in an area where it might attract iron filings or pieces.

Figure 3 - Removing signal rotor shaft:

8. Lightly tap signal rotor shaft to remove it from signal rotor.

Figure 4 - Removing pick-up coil:

9. Remove two screws and remove pick-up coil from stator.

Figure 5 - Removing governor:

10. Use pliers to remove two spring retainers, and then remove the two governor springs.
11. Remove two governor weights.

Figure 6 - Removing drive gear pin:

12. Make marks on distributor shaft to show the drive gear position.
13. Place drive gear on soft base (wooden block) so that roll pin can be removed.
14. Remove roll pin by using a pin punch.
15. Remove drive gear and washer.
16. Remove distributor shaft from housing.

Figure 7 - Inspecting pick-up coil:

INSPECTION

PICK-UP COIL

^ Using circuit tester, measure resistance of pick-up coil.

Pickup coil resistance: 920 to 1120 ohm

Figure 8 - Installing drive gear pin:

REASSEMBLY

Reassemble distributor in reverse order of disassembly, with following exception:

^ Install drive gear into distributor shaft at previously marked location, then install new roll pin.

Figure 9 - Installing stator and pick-up coil:

^ Install stator and pick-up coil assembly in the housing. Set stator base so that projection (A) fits in groove (B).

Figure 10 - Installing signal rotor:

^ After installing signal rotor, check to be sure that signal rotor and stator of pick-up do not contact each other.

Figure 11 - Installing distributor (1):

INSTALLATION

1. Turn crankshaft until piston in No. 1 cylinder is at top dead center on compression stroke.
2. Align mating mark on distributor housing with that (punch mark) on distributor driven gear.

Figure 12 - Installing distributor (2):

3. Install distributor to cylinder head while aligning mating mark on distributor attaching flange with center of distributor installing stud and tighten nuts.
4. Connect spark plug cables and secondary cable to distributor.
5. Connect distributor wiring connector.
6. Connect battery ground cable.
7. Connect vacuum hose to vacuum controller nipple.
8. Adjust ignition timing.
