SYMPTOM/CONDITION

Transaxle can only be shifted between neutral and 5th gear.

DIAGNOSIS

Check transaxle for shifting into all gears. If lever will only move between neutral and 5th gear, then the problem could be due to a displaced seat in the select shift rail bore (Figure 1).

REPAIR PROCEDURE

It will be necessary to replace the shift rail and seat to correct the no-shift condition.

1. Remove the transaxle from the vehicle.

2. Remove the select shift rail (#3, Figure 1).
3. Install the new seat and shift rail.

4. Reassemble and reinstall the transaxle.

5. Road test the vehicle and check for proper shifting.
