B. Install Choke Shim (If Necessary)
B. Install Choke Shim (if necessary)1. Drain about one gallon of engine coolant from the radiator and save for later use.
2. Remove the throttle return spring.
3. Remove the carburetor following Service Manual procedures.
4. Insert the provided fast idle release tool between the fast idle cam lever and the wax element housing (Figure 2).
NOTE:
Insert the tool so that there is no interference with the throttle lever movement.
5. Turn the tool counterclockwise (about 45 degrees) until the tool is wedged in the position as shown Figure 3. This provides the needed clearance between the choke adjusting screw and the plunger.
NOTE:
Rotate the throttle lever to a fully open position for easier shim installation.
6. Using the installation stick attached to the choke shim, install the shim on the choke adjusting screw (Figure 4).
7. Rotate the fast idle release tool clockwise and remove.
8. Detach the installation stick from the shim by twisting the stick until it breaks free from the shim.
9. Ensure that the choke adjusting shim is securely installed between the plunger and the adjusting screw.
10. Reinstall the throttle return spring.
