Recall - HC and CO Emissions: Overview
No.: 342TJuly, 1993
To: All California Dodge and Chrysler-Plymouth Dealers
Subject:
California Emissions Recall # 342T -- HC and CO Emissions:
Vehicles Involved in But Not Previously Serviced for Recall # 290T
Models:
1985 Model Year Plymouth and Dodge Colt Vista 4WD Vehicles Equipped With a 2.0L Carbureted Engine and California Emission Control System and Involved in But Not Previously Serviced for California Emissions Recall #290T
The small number of listed vehicles involved in but not previously serviced for California Emissions Recall #29OT may not comply with California Emissions Standards for hydrocarbon (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO) exhaust emissions. To correct the condition the manifold mounted catalytic converter and jet mixture solenoid must be replaced. Also, the service requirements of prior recall # 29OT are now part of this recall (# 342T).
Note: The same model vehicles which did previously receive service for Recall # 29OT will be subject to a separate recall (# 331T).
Recalls # 331T and # 342T cancel and supersede Recall # 290T effective immediately.
Important:
This recall is subject to the State of California Registration Renewal/Emissions Recall Enforcement Program implemented in 1992. Involved vehicles must have the recall service completed before registration renewal.
The servicing dealer must provide a Vehicle Emission Recall Proof of Correction Form (Form No. 81-016-1053) to each owner upon completion of the recall service, for use as proof in renewal of the vehicle registration.
Important:
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) will be performing an audit of vehicles serviced for this recall. CARB will monitor service technician repair performance and review repair orders in numerous dealerships throughout the state. It is imperative for dealers to insure that each step is performed as instructed.
Details of this service action are explained in the following sections.
