Radiator Cooling Fan Motor: Description and Operation
Fig. 10 Exploded view of electric cooling fan assembly. 1985-88 Conquest w/intercooler:
The two electric cooling fans are controlled by two thermo sensors and two relays.
Both thermo sensors are located in the radiator lower tank. Thermo sensor No. 1 operates when coolant temperature reaches approximately 185°F, then the thermo sensor contacts close, providing a ground circuit to the fan relay, which provides voltage to fan motor No. 1. Thermo sensor No. 2 operates in the same manner as sensor No. 1, except that it only activates fan motor No. 2 after coolant temperature reaches 212°F.
