The attached information pertains to a modulator added to the Electronic Control Injection (ECI) system on Conquest vehicles equipped with an intercooler. This information was not included in the 1985 Conquest Service Manual - Supplement (#81-270-5013A).

The purpose of the modulator, PN MD099402, is to control throttle position sensor (TPS) output voltage from exceeding 3V going to the electronic control unit (ECU). Therefore, when the accelerator is kept at the wide open position, TPS voltage measured at the ECU connector shall be 3V.

FIGURE 2 - TERMINAL CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION:

Please also note that vehicles built before February 11, 1985, use an adapter, PN MD099444, and adapter harness, PN MD099404, to connect the modulator into the chassis ECU control harness as shown in Figure 1. The terminal identification for the adapter and adapter harness connectors is shown in Figure 2.

FIGURE 3 - VEHICLES BUILT FEBRUARY 11, 1985 & AFTER:

On vehicles built February 11, 1985 and later, the chassis control harness has been changed so that the adaptor and adaptor harness are no longer required. In their place a new harness, PN MD099551, is used as shown in Figure 3.

Be sure to add these changes to your Conquest Service Manual - Supplement in the Fuel Section, Group 14.
