Fuel Pump: Service and Repair

1. Relieve fuel system pressure as follows:
a. Start engine and disconnect electric fuel pump connector. Connector is located inside rear compartment.
b. When engine stops from lack of fuel, turn off ignition and disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Push fuel pump/sending unit lead and grommet through floor and remove fuel tank cap.
3. Raise and support rear of vehicle, drain fuel tank into suitable container and disconnect filler hose.
4. On 2 wheel drive models, remove spare tire carrier assembly.
5. Support tank with suitable jack and remove nuts securing tank straps.
6. Lower tank, mark and disconnect fuel hoses, vapor hoses and electrical connectors, then remove tank.
7. Remove nuts or bolts securing pump, then withdraw pump assembly from tank.
8. Reverse procedure to install.
