Assembly
1. Install idle mixture screws and springs, ensuring tapered portion is straight and smooth.
2. Finger tighten screws lightly against their seats, then turn screws one turn counterclockwise.
3. Install fast idle cam on main body stub shaft with steps toward fast idle adjusting screw, securing with E-clip.
4. Invert main body and place new gasket in position, then place throttle body on main body.
5. Install 4 attaching screws, torquing to 30 inch lbs.
6. Install accelerator pump discharge check ball and weight in discharge passage, then fill fuel bowl with clean fuel and proceed as follows:
a. Hold discharge check ball and weight down with brass rod and operate pump plunger by hand.
b. If there is no resistance when operating plunger, remove weight and stake ball with suitable punch, being careful not to damage bore containing pump weight.
c. Replace old ball with new ball, then install weight and recheck for leaks.
7. Install new gaskets on venturi cluster, install cluster in position on main body. Install attaching screws and tighten securely.
8. Install main metering jets.
9. Using tool C-4231 or equivalent, install mechanical and vacuum power valves, being careful not to damage power valve needles. Ensure power valves are correctly installed, mechanical valve on choke side and vacuum valve on throttle lever side.
10. Install hinge pin in float assembly.
11. Insert hinge through slot in float baffle with tabs on baffle pointing downward.
12. Position assembly in hinge pin cradle in carburetor main body. A Nitrophyl float can be checked for fuel absorption by lightly squeezing between fingers. If wetness appears on surface or float feels heavy, replace float assembly.
13. Place new gasket on fuel inlet fitting and install assembly into main body, tightening securely.
14. Check float level as described under ``In-Vehicle Testing.''
15. Install feedback solenoid.
16. Test freeness of choke mechanism in air horn. If choke sticks in bearing bores, clean thoroughly.
17. Install vacuum power piston spring and piston in cylinder, then place retaining ring over piston stem and carefully seat in place.
18. Compress piston to check for binding. If piston sticks or binds enough to hinder smooth operation, install new piston.
19. Install mechanical power valve pushrod spring, pushrod and E-clip retainer, then push plastic cap onto pushrod.
20. Install accelerator pump assembly through air horn and install cap nut.
21. Place new gasket on air horn and lower air horn straight down onto main body, guiding accelerator pump plunger into its cylinder. Do not cut lip of plunger on sharp edge of cylinder.
22. Install air horn attaching screws, torquing to 25---30 inch lbs. from center out.
23. With pump override spring retainer contacting boss on fuel bowl side of air horn, adjust cap nut for clearance of .310 inch between E.C.S. housing surface and the cap nut.
24. Install accelerator pump arm, internal pump lever and pump operating shaft, then the E-clip.
25. Install fast idle connector link as follows:
a. Engage plain end in slot of fast idle cam from inside.
b. Engage other end of rod in choke lever.
c. With choke valve wide open, slide lever over choke shaft, aligning flats.
d. Install attaching lock washer and nut, tightening securely.
e. Install accelerating pump operating link.
26. Engage choke diaphragm link in slot in choke lever, then install choke diaphragm assembly and secure with attaching screws.
27. Install bowl vent assembly.
28. Install gasket and bowl vent cover plate.
29. Install accelerator pump link in hole, retaining with cotter pin.
30. Install air cleaner bolt and retainer assembly.
