DR-28A Checking Computer Controlled Components

This test must be performed with engine at normal operating temperature.
1. Connect diagnostic read-out tool to engine harness connector. Set system to the ATM Test Mode. Press and hold ATM button, until test codes appears:
a. 1.6 and 2.2L with the oxygen feedback system-test code 91.
b. 2.2 without the oxygen feedback system and with manual transmission, test code 92.
c. 2.2 without the oxygen feedback system and with auto transmission, test code 93.
2. Test Code 91. Oxygen solenoid should click, hold ATM button until next code appears.
a. Oxygen solenoid does not click, replace solenoid.
3. Test Code 92, models with manual transmission. Shift indicator light should blink on instrument panel. Hold the ATM button until next code appears, then proceed to Test 31.
a. If the instrument panel light does not blink, repair circuit as required.
4. Test Code 93. The canister purge solenoid should be clicking. Press and hold the ATM button until the next test code appears. If canister purge solenoid does not click, replace it.
5. Test Code 96. The radiator fan should be turning on and off. Press and hold the ATM button until the next test code appears.
a. If the fan does not turn on and off, is the relay clicking? If it is repair the circuit to the radiator fan motor as required.
b. If the relay does not click, proceed to step B.
6. Test Code 97. The electronic throttle control solenoid should be clicking. Press and hold the ATM button until the next test code appears.
a. If electronic throttle control solenoid does not click, replace it.
7. Test Code 98. The V.O.S. control solenoid should be clicking. Turn ignition switch Off and proceed to Test 29.
a. V.O.S control solenoid does not click, replace it.
