SYMPTOM/CONDITION
Water entering passenger compartment through or around doors resulting in wet floor in step well door sill area.
DIAGNOSIS
Water test vehicle to determine point of water entry. Potential leak causes are weather strip wrinkles/cuts, upper door frame to door joint (high or low spots), mirrors, and excessive glass opening gaps between inner and outer door panel. Also check the door drain holes to ensure they are open.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
Water Leaks Through Door
1. Remove trim panel per service manual procedure.
2. Check placement and sealing of water/air shield and inspect for cuts or rips. Repair cuts or rips in water shield with duct tape or other water resistant adhesive material to seal or channel water away from trim panel area.
FIGURE 1:
3. Check water shield/deflector to insure tuck tabs are behind access openings (Figure 1).
4. Check wiring and linkage for possible water leak where they are routed through inner door skin. Seal with duct tape or RTV sealer as required.
5. Check door drain holes and clean as required.
6. Reseal water/air shield to door inner surface around outer edge of door and around openings in shield for linkage, etc. Use 3M general trim adhesive, PN 05113508080, or Mopar Spray Gasket Sealant, PN 4318035 (Figure 1).
7. Use RTV at trim panel attaching holes to seal clips that could possibly act as water ramps.
8. Reinstall trim panel using service manual procedure.
9. Water test vehicle to insure leak is corrected.
Water Leaks Around Door Opening
1. Inspect door weather strip for wrinkles/cuts, etc. and replace as necessary.
2. Inspect upper door frame to door or body seams along sealing area, for high or low spots (where applicable). High spots must be filed or sanded down, and low spots must be built up with body filler, etc., to create a smooth sealing surface. Touch-up repaired area as required (Figure 1).
