DEALER SERVICE INSTRUCTIONS


^ This recall applies only to 1986 and 1987 Model Year Plymouth and Dodge Colt Vista 2 WD vehicles equipped with a 2.0L carbureted engine and Federal Emission Control System.

^ The following service steps are required:

- Clean the primary air bleed jet, secondary air bleed jet and choke shaft and linkage.

- Inspect the jet mixture solenoid valve and oxygen sensor and replace as required.

- Install a shim in the carburetor choke system.

- Replace the enrichment solenoid jet.

- Clean the EGR and sub-EGR valves and passages.

- Install a vacuum control valve and vacuum hose harness.

- Install a new hose routing label.

^ The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will be performing an audit of vehicles serviced for this recall. It is imperative to ensure that each step is performed as instructed. Failure to do so will be considered by the EPA to be a violation, subjecting affected dealers to significant fines.

^ A service procedure checklist is provided on the reverse side of the Instruction Sheet enclosed with each Emissions Service Parts Package, PN C3940395. The servicing technician should complete, sign and date the checklist, to be retained by the dealership as a permanent record of recall service completion.

Subject: Emissions Recall # 478 -- HC, CO and NOx Emissions REVISED LABOR TIME ALLOWANCE

Models: 1986 and 1987 Model Year Plymouth and Dodge Colt Vista 2WD Vehicles Equipped With a 2.0L Carbureted Engine and Federal Emission Control System

Reference: Dealer recall notification letter # 478, November, 1990


Labor time allowances for this recall have been increased. The revised allowances are as follows:

The revised time allowances will supersede those published in the original dealer recall notification letter of November, 1990. All claims entered to the DIAL system on or after April 26, 1991 will be paid at the new rates.

Additional reimbursement equivalent to the increase in time allowance will be made by Chrysler to dealers for all claims paid at the original allowances. This applies to all claims entered to the DIAL system through April 25, 1991. There is no need for dealers to submit additional claims for this reimbursement -- it will be done automatically by Chrysler.

Instructions for jump-starting vehicles equipped with the Theft Alarm system were not included in the Owner's Manual for affected vehicles. An addendum card with the following instructions is now being mailed to owners:


ADDENDUM TO 1989 & 1990 OWNER'S MANUAL

Jump-Starting Vehicles Equipped With Theft Security System

The following information is an addition to the Jump-Starting portion of this manual.

After the booster battery has been connected, the Theft System must be turned OFF. Using the key, lock then unlock either front door. This turns the Theft System OFF and the remainder of the Jump-Starting procedure can be followed.

If this procedure is not followed, the Theft System electronics will prevent the engine from starting.
