Diesel Data: Automotive Repair

I. Check Vacuum Hose Harness Installation

1. Verify the presence of a vacuum harness between the EGR valve, carburetor, and secondary air control valve as shown in Figure 13. If the vacuum harness is missing, skip to Step J.

2. Confirm that the vacuum delay valve of the harness is connected to the EGR valve and that the other port of the 3-way vacuum connector is connected to the thermovalve (Figure 14).

3. Verify that the white striped hose of the harness is teed into the vacuum hose which was disconnected from the air cleaner (Figure 15).

4. Verify that the vacuum harness is routed around the carburetor and the F-connector of the harness is teed into the vacuum hose connecting the base of the carburetor and the secondary throttle control diaphragm (Figure 16).

5. Ensure that the harness is tie-wrapped to the carburetor water hose to prevent interference with the carburetor linkage.

6. Check to see that the red, white, and blue tracer harness hoses are attached to the corresponding ports of the vacuum control valve (Figure 17).

7. Ensure that the shorter green tracer hose of the harness is connected to the rear port of the secondary air control solenoid. The front port should be connected to the red tracer hose of the harness (Figure 18).

8. Verify that the long green tracer harness hose is connected to the secondary air control valve and is secured to the secondary air supply hose (Figure 19).

9. Be sure that the vacuum control valve is attached to the secondary air hose with the bracket as shown in Figure 20.

10. Reinstall the air cleaner assembly and continue with Step K.
