C. Check Operation of SUB-EGR Valve

1. Open and close the throttle several times and check to see that the sub-EGR valve moves smoothly.

2. ^ If the sub-EGR valve moves smoothly, proceed to Section D.

^ If the sub-EGR does not move smoothly or is stuck, clean it as described in following step 3.

3. Clean the Sub-EGR Valve (if necessary):

a. Locate the sub-EGR valve on the carburetor under the accelerator pump housing.





b. To disassemble the sub-EGR valve, push the spring loaded pin and disconnect the linkage. Remove the plunger from the bore. If the plunger is stuck, remove and discard the E-clip from the sub-EGR plunger. Remove the pin. Be careful not to lose the spring and small steel ball located beneath the throttle linkage. They are needed for reinstallation later. Remove the steel ball and spring from the end of the plunger. To remove the plunger from the carburetor body, insert an Allen wrench through the plunger pin and MOPAR Brake and Carburetor Parts Cleaner, Part No. 4318037, or equivalent (Figure 8).

NOTE:
Do NOT use a screwdriver or a steel wire brush in the bore of the sub-EGR valve since this will scratch the bore and cause carbon to build up more quickly.

e. Dry the plunger and bore thoroughly. Reassemble the sub-EGR control valve in the reverse order of the disassembly procedure in Step C-3(b) using the supplied E-clip if necessary. A spare small steel ball has also been included in the parts package for use if necessary.

f. Ensure that the sub-EGR control valve operates smoothly. If the operation is not smooth, check and clean the throttle and choke linkages as necessary.
