D.Clean the SUB-EGR Valve
Figure 5:
1. Locate the sub-EGR valve on the carburetor under the accelerator pump housing.
2. To disassemble the valve, remove and discard the E-clip from the subEGR control valve as shown (Figure 5).
3. Remove the pin and separate the throttle linkage from the plunger. Be careful not to lose the spring and small steel ball located beneath the throttle linkage. They are needed for reinstallation later. Remove the steel ball and spring from the end of the plunger. To remove the plunger from the carburetor throttle body, insert an Allen wrench through the plunger pin holes and gently twist out.
4. Wet a piece of fine emery cloth and cup it in the palm of your hand. Clean the plunger by twisting it in the emery cloth.
NOTE: Do NOT clean the plunger with a wire brush as it may scratch the plunger. The scratches will allow carbon to build up on the plunger more quickly.
5. Clean the plunger bore in the carburetor with MOPAR Brake and Carburetor Parts Cleaner, PN 4318037, or equivalent. You may want to use a small screwdriver to loosen any carbon deposits in the passages in the underside of the carburetor.
NOTE: Do NOT use a screwdriver in the bore of the sub-EGR valve since this will scratch the bore and cause carbon to build up more quickly.
6. Dry the plunger and bore thoroughly. Reassemble the sub-EGR control valve in the reverse order of the disassembly procedure in step D-2 using the supplied E-clip. A spare small steel ball has also been included in the parts package for use if necessary.
7. Insure that the sub-EGR control valve operates smoothly. If the operation is not smooth, check and clean the throttle and choke linkages as necessary.
