Diesel Data: Automotive Repair

Description

No. 546
June, 1993

To: All Dodge and Chrysler-Plymouth Dealers

Subject:
Emissions Recall # 546 -- Jet Mixture Solenoid Valve and Oxygen Sensor Replacement and Verification of Proper Completion of Recall # 478 (HC, CO and NOx Emissions)

Models:
1986 and 1987 Model Year Dodge and Plymouth Colt Vista 2WD Equipped With a 2.0L Carbureted Engine and Federal Emission Control System

The listed vehicles previously serviced for recall # 478 must be inspected to ensure that the service was performed as instructed. If any steps were not completed properly, they must be corrected at this time. The Jet mixture solenoid valve and oxygen sensor must be replaced on all vehicles

This action is required as a result of an audit conducted by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It was found that in some cases the prior recall service was not correctly performed.

Important:
The EPA will again audit vehicles serviced for this inspection/correction program. It is imperative to ensure that each step is performed as instructed. Failure to do so will be considered by the EPA to be a violation, subjecting affected dealers to possible significant civil penalties by the Agency.

Details of this service action are explained in the following sections.

Service Procedure Videotape

As an additional service aid, refer to the videotape demonstrating the original Recall # 478 service procedure, included in the September, 1990 Master Tech program. Note that the jet mixture solenoid valve and oxygen sensor are to be replaced on all vehicles instead of the inspect and replace as required stated in the videotape.
