Radiator Cooling Fan Motor Relay: Testing and Inspection

On Colt and Colt Hatchback models, the fan relay is located in the relay box which is installed on the left side toe board behind the corner panel. On Colt Vista models, the relay box is located on the right front wheel house.

1. Remove relay from from relay box. Connect battery power source to terminal 2. Using a suitable ohmmeter, check continuity between terminals with terminal 4 grounded. Continuity should exist between terminals 1 and 3.
2. Disconnect power source. Continuity should exist between terminals 2 and 4. There should be no continuity between terminals 1 and 3.
3. If relay performance is not satisfactory, replace as necessary.
