Distributor: Description and Operation
The optical distributor, used on V6-181 engines, sends engine speed and crankshaft position signals to the SMEC or SBEC to control fuel injection, ignition timing and idle speed. The distributor also delivers the firing pulses from the coil to each cylinder through a cap and rotor. Protection against high voltage damage to the electronic circuitry and optical system contamination is provided by a cover between the rotor and case.
