Tilt Column

On models with airbag restraint system, battery ground cable must be disconnected and isolated before performing this procedure.
Failure to do so may result in accidental deployment and personal injuryy.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. On models with airbag restraint system, remove airbag module, refer to Air Bags and Seat Belts/Air Bags (Supplemental Restraint Systems)/Service and Repair.
3. On all models, remove steering wheel, refer to Steering and Suspension/Steering/Steering Wheel/Service and Repair.
4. Remove wiring protector, tilt lever, hazard warning knob and ignition key lamp assembly.
5. Pull knob off wash/wipe switch, then pull hider up stalk and remove sleeve attaching screws. Remove sleeve from wash/wipe switch.
6. Rotate shaft in wiper switch to full clockwise position, then remove shaft.
7. Remove cover from lock plate. Depress lock plate with lock plate depressor No. C-4156, then pry out retaining ring.
8. Remove lock plate, canceling cam and upper bearing spring.
9. Remove switch actuator screw and arm.
10. Remove turn signal attaching screws, then place shift bowl in Low position.
11. Pull switch from steering column, while carefully guiding wires up through column opening.
12. Reverse procedure to install.
