Diesel Data: Automotive Repair

Driver's Side

NOTE: Refer to SCHEMATIC DIAGRAMS/ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC DIAGRAMS when performing these tests.

1. Disconnect door latch switch harness connector.
2. Connect a suitable ohmmeter between door latch switch terminals 1 and 3, then terminals 2 and 3.
3. Observe ohmmeter while opening and closing door.
4. Infinite resistance should be indicated between terminals 1 and 3 when door is open, continuity should be indicated between terminals 1 and 3 when door is closed.
5. Continuity should be indicated between terminals 2 and 3 when door is open, infinite resistance should be indicated between terminals 2 and 3 when door is closed.
6. If resistance is as specified, proceed to step 8.
7. If resistance is not as specified, replace door latch switch.
8. Connect ohmmeter between door latch switch connector terminal 3 and ground.
9. Ohmmeter should indicate continuity.
10. If continuity exists, proceed to step 12.
11. If continuity does not exist, repair harness as necessary.
12. Connect door latch switch harness connector, then disconnect control unit harness connector.
13. Connect ohmmeter between control unit connector terminal 6 and ground.
14. Observe ohmmeter while opening and closing door.
15. Continuity should exist when door is open, resistance should be infinite when door is closed.
16. If resistance is as specified, proceed to step 18.
17. If resistance is not as specified, repair harness as necessary.
18. Disconnect fasten switch harness connector.
19. Connect ohmmeter between fasten switch connector terminal 1 and ground.
20. Observe ohmmeter while opening and closing door.
21. Resistance should be infinite when door is open, and continuity should exist when door is closed.
22. If resistance is as specified, proceed to step 24.
23. If resistance is not as specified, repair harness as necessary.
24. Connect fasten switch harness connector.
25. Connect ohmmeter between control unit connector terminal 4 and ground.
26. Close door.
27. Infinite resistance should be indicated when slide anchor is in fasten range (fasten switch OFF), continuity should exist when slide anchor is not in fasten range (fasten switch ON).
28. If resistance is as specified, circuit is satisfactory.
29. If resistance is not as specified, replace motor and track assembly.
