DISASSEMBLY

1. Remove steering column, refer to Removal/Installation.
2. Remove components in order as they appear, noting the following:
a. Remove snap ring (3), then remove steering shaft (5) downward.
b. If removal of steering lock assembly (8) is necessary, use a hacksaw to cut a groove in head of special bolts, then use a screwdriver to remove steering lock.
c. If removal of steering column bracket(s) (10) is necessary, use a hacksaw to cut a groove in head of special bolts, then use a screwdriver to remove steering column bracket(s).

INSPECTION

1. Inspect steering shaft for bends and/or deformation.
2. Inspect steering shaft splines for breakage and/or damage.
3. Inspect steering shaft joints for play and/or binding.
4. Inspect all rubber parts for cracks and/or breakage.

ASSEMBLY

NOTE: Apply lubricant to surfaces as indicated. Specified lubricant is Mopar Multi-mileage Lubricant part No. 2525035 or equivalent. Assemble components in reverse order as they appear, noting the following:
1. When installing steering column bracket(s) (10), tighten special bolts until bolt heads twist off.
NOTE: New special bolts must be used.
2. Install steering lock (8) as follows:
a. Temporarily install steering lock in alignment with column boss.
b. Ensure lock functions correctly, then tighten special bolts until bolt heads twist off.
NOTE: Steering lock bracket and special bolts must be replaced when installing steering lock.
3. Install bearing (7) as follows:
a. Apply specified lubricant to lower bearing before installing in lower portion of steering column.
b. Ensure projections on bearing are fitted to holes in steering column.
