Suspension Spring ( Coil / Leaf ): Service and Repair

2WD MODELS

1. Raise and support vehicle, then remove wheel and tire assembly and rear brake drum assembly.
2. Remove brake tube. Disconnect brake hose from torsion axle and arm assembly.
3. Position a piece of wood between a suitable jack and the torsion axle and arm assembly. Do not apply jack to lateral rod. After raising torsion axle and arm slightly, remove lateral rod from body.
4. Remove torsion axle and arm from body.
5. Disconnect shock absorber upper and lower mounts, then remove shock absorber from vehicle.
6. Remove coil spring and upper spring seat. Note location of spring seats.
7. Reverse procedure to install. Note the following:
a. Coil springs have colored identification marks which indicate specific application. When replacing springs, ensure that replacement springs are appropriately marked.
b. After completing installation, bleed brake system and adjust rear wheel bearings.

4WD MODELS

1. Raise and support rear of vehicle at body, then remove wheel and tire assembly. Support rear axle using a suitable jack.
2. Remove stabilizer bar link nut.
3. Remove load sensing proportioning valve mounting bracket bolt.
4. Remove lateral rod to axle housing attaching bolt.
5. Remove shock absorber lower attaching bolt.
6. Carefully lower jack positioned under rear housing until coil spring can be removed.
7. Reverse procedure to install.
