Assembly

d. ADJUSTMENT OF PINION BACKLASH

Measure the backlash between the side gear and pinions. Adjust for same backlash of both side gears.

Standard value: 0.025 - 0.150 mm (0.00098 - 0.00591 in.)

If backlash is out of specification, disassemble again and correct spacer, reassemble and adjust.

A. LOCK PIN INSTALLATION

Align the lock pin hole in the pinion shaft and the lock pin hole in the case and then install the lock pin.

Caution:

1. Do not reuse lock pins.
2. Make the lock pin lower than the surface of the differential case flange.
3. Press-fitting load is over 5,000 Nm (1,100 lbs.).

B. TAPER ROLLER BEARING (F4A23) INSTALLATION

Using the special tools, install the taper roller bearings on both sides of the differential case.

Caution: When press-fitting the bearings, push the inner race only.

C. BALL BEARING (F4A22, AWD) INSTALLATION

Using the special tools, install the ball bearings on both sides of the differential case.

D. SEALANT TO BOLTS APPLICATION

Apply specified sealant to the entire threads of the bolts and quickly tighten in the order shown to specified torque.

Specified sealant: 3M STUD Locking Part No.4170 or equivalent.

Caution: If a bolt is reused, remove traces of oil sealant completely from the threads.
