About Using Charts (Read First)

Malfunctions May Be Caused By These General Conditions:

- Poor Engine Performance

- Improper Adjustments

- Hydraulic Malfunctions

- Mechanical Malfunctions

- Electronic Malfunctions

Preliminary Checks:

Note: Always begin diagnosis of these problems by checking the easily accessible variables: fluid level and condition, gearshift cable adjustment.

- If a problem is found during the preliminary checks, correct the problem, and determine whether more diagnosis is necessary by performing a road test.

- If the problem exists after the preliminary checks and corrections are completed, perform hydraulic pressure checks.

Note: All test procedures assume that Chrysler's DRB II diagnostic read-out box is being used, it should be possible to apply the same test procedures using an equivalent scan tool.

Using the Diagnostic Charts:

1. To properly perform diagnostic testing of the Electronic Automatic Transaxle using the test procedures in this reference, ALWAYS start with Test 1A. Starting with any other test may result in incorrect fault diagnosis.

2. Tests are presented in modified flowchart form.

- To proceed from one process box to another, follow the direction of the lines between the boxes as indicated by the arrows.

- If a test is continued, an instruction is given in an arrow-shaped "box" to direct you to the next page or to another test.

3. Use the Scan tool volt/ohmmeter unless instructed to use an "external" volt/ohmmeter.

4. Afier each repair is completed, perform the Verification Test procedure (Test 36A).
