Installation

Fig. 27 Timing Belt:

TIMING BELT INSTALLATION
Reverse removal procedure to install, noting following:

1. With timing belt tensioner bolt loosened, use a screwdriver to fully turn timing belt tensioner as close to engine mount as possible, and then, for time being, tighten tensioner bolt.

Fig. 14 Timing Mark Alignment:

2. Align each of camshaft sprocket and crankshaft timing marks, Fig. 14.
3. Without slackening its tension side, install timing belt at first crankshaft sprocket, then water pump sprocket, then camshaft sprocket, and lastly tensioner pulley.
4. After installing timing belt, apply force to turn camshaft sprocket in reverse direction, then recheck to be sure that belt is fully tensioner and that each timing mark is in proper position.
5. Set timing belt tension as follows:

a. Loosen fixing bolt of tensioner pulley fixed to engine mount side by 1/4-1/2 turn and use force of tensioner spring to apply tension to belt.
b. Turn crankshaft in proper rotation direction (right turn) for two rotations and recheck to be sure that timing marks on each sprocket are aligned.

6. Install timing belt cover bolts in correct location as shown in Fig. 29. Bolts marked A are 0.72 inch long and bolts marked B are 1.18 inches long.
