OIL PAN REPLACE
Replace oil pan, oil pump and silent shafts in numbered sequence shown, noting following:
1. On AWD models, oil pan removal requires that transfer assembly first be removed as outlined under Clutch & Manual Transaxle.
2. On all models, use a brass bar and tool No. MD998727, or equivalent, to knock oil pan loose from block after removing retaining bolts and nuts. Perform this operation with care so that pan flange is not damaged.
3. Use special tool No. MD998162, or equivalent, to remove front case plug cap.

4. Remove pump driven gear bolt by first removing plug on side of cylinder block, and then inserting a Phillips screwdriver into plug hold to block silent shaft.
5. Use tool No. MD998371, or equivalent, to remove silent shaft front bearing from cylinder block, tool No. MD998372, or equivalent, to remove right silent shaft rear bearing and tool Nos. MD998372 and MD998374, or equivalents to remove left shaft rear bearing.
6. Reverse procedure to install, noting following:
a. Use bearing installation tool Nos. MD998374 and MD998373, or equivalents, when installing silent shaft bearings.

b. Coat oil pump drive and driven gears with oil then install, aligning timing marks.
c. Install oil seals using seal installation tool No. C-0.095-A, or equivalent.
d. Install front oil seal installer tool No. MD998285, or equivalent, on crankshaft and apply oil to tool.

e. Install front case assembly through new front case gasket and temporarily tighten flange bolts. Do not tighten filter bracket bolts.
f. Mount oil filter bracket and gasket on front case and install bolts.
g. Tighten front case and oil filter bracket bolts to specifications.
h. Secure oil pump driven gear onto left silent shaft.
i. Install new O-ring and cap plug using socket tool No. MD998162, or equivalent.

j. Apply a 0.16 inch bead of sealant to oil pan flange as shown.
