1. Unplug connector from buckle switch, then measure continuity as follows:
a. Measure between buckle switch harness side connector terminal 2 and ground.

2. If resistance is 0 OHM;, circuit is satisfactory; if resistance is infinite, check for an open harness wire between buckle switch and ground or an improper ground connection and repair as necessary.
3. Connect buckle switch connector, then disconnect control unit connector and leave lap belt unfastened so that buckle switch will be on.
4. Measure continuity between control unit harness side connector terminal 2 and ground. If resistance is 0 OHM;, circuit is satisfactory; if resistance is infinite, check for an open harness wire between buckle switch and control unit. Repair open wire or replace buckle switch as necessary.
5. Disconnect outer switch connector, then measure continuity as follows:
a. Measure between outer switch harness side connector terminal 3 and ground.

6. If resistance is 0 OHM;, circuit is satisfactory; if resistance is infinite, check for an open harness wire between outer switch and ground or an improper ground connection and repair as necessary.
7. Pull out and retract shoulder belt, then measure continuity as follows:
a. Measure terminal to ground continuity at outer switch side connectors 3 and 4.

8. Ensure resistance is infinite as belt is pulled from its fully retracted position to its approximate midpoint, then is 0 OHM; from that point to its fully extended position.
9. If results are as specified, continue with procedure; if not, replace shoulder belt retractor.
10. Attach shoulder belt to slide anchor (outer switch on), then connect outer switch connector and disconnect control unit connector.
11. Measure continuity between control unit harness side connector terminal 14 and ground. If resistance is 0 OHM;, circuit is satisfactory; if not, an open may exist between control unit and outer switch. Repair harness as necessary.
