Low Tire Pressure Warning Lamp Flashing
FAILURE MODELF Low Tire Pressure
LR Low Tire Pressure
RF Low Tire Pressure
RR Low Tire Pressure
WHEN MONITORED
Ignition on.
Sampled every 30 to 34 seconds when vehicle is above approximately 33km/h (20 mph)
Transmitted to LTPW module every 60 to 68 seconds or if the pressure changes ± one or more psi between sampling periods when vehicle is above approximately 33 km/h (20 mph).
SET CONDITION
The LTPW module monitors the tire pressure sensor/transmitter transmission for a low tire pressure status every 60 to 68 seconds. but only when the vehicle is traveling faster than about 33 km/h (20 mph). The tire pressure sensor/transmitter's signal is transmitted 8 times to ensure that the LTPW module reads all the information. Upon receiving a low tire pressure status from a tire pressure sensor/transmitter the LTPW module will compare the actual tire pressure to the two preprogrammed tire pressure thresholds (low and critical). If a low tire pressure condition exists the LTPW module will pulse to ground the Low Tire Pressure Warning Lamp Signal Circuit causing the BCM to flash the "Low Tire" warning lamp at a rate of about 2 seconds on and 2 seconds off. Also, the BCM will chime a single long tone. If the tire pressure continues to drop or is already at the preprogrammed critical tire pressure level, the LTPW module will pulse to ground the Low Tire Pressure Warning Lamp Signal Circuit and causing the BCM to flash the "Low Tire" warning lamp even faster at a rate of about 1 second on and 1 second off. Also, the BCM will chime a short pulsing (1 second on and 1 second off) tone. The Low Tire Pressure Warning Module will continue to send a command to flash the "Low Tire" Lamp and sound the chime module until ignition key is turned off or the tire pressure sensor/transmitter sends a signal that the tire pressure is now above the low pressure level.
NOTE Remember that if the low tire pressure condition exists and the vehicle has had air put into the tire to bring the tire pressure up to normal operating pressure. The "Low Tire" lamp and chime will continue to flash and sound with the ignition on. The "Low Fire" lamp will not go Out until the vehicle is driven above approximately 33 km/h (20 mph) and the tire pressure sensor/transmitter has transmitted the corrected tire pressure to the LTPW module.
POSSIBLE CAUSES
- Low tire pressure
- Air leak in tire
- An inflatable sealant used to fix a flat may have plugged the tire pressure transmitter's air pressure sensing hole.
- Faulty tire pressure sensor/transmitter
