Installation
NOTE: Upper and lower bearing halves are NOT interchangeable. Lower main bearing halves of 1, 2, 3 and 4 are interchangeable. Upper main bearing halves of 1, 3 and 4 are interchangeable.
1. Install Crankshaft.
2. Install each main cap and tighten bolts finger tight.
3. Tighten number 1, 3 and 4 main cap bolts to 41 Nm + 1/4 Turn (30 ft. lbs. + 1/4 Turn). Then tighten the #3 tie bolts to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.).
4. Rotate the crankshaft until number 6 piston is at Top Dead Center (TDC).
5. To ensure correct thrust bearing alignment the following procedures must be done:
6. Move crankshaft all the way to the rear of its travel.
7. Then, move crankshaft all the way to the front of its travel.
8. Wedge a appropriate tool between the rear of the cylinder block and rear crankshaft counterweight. This will hold the crankshaft in it's most forward position.
9. Tighten the #2 Thrust Bearing cap bolts to 41 Nm + 1/4 Turn (30 ft. lbs. + 1/4 Turn). Then tighten the #2 tie bolts to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.). Remove the holding tool.
10. Install rear crankshaft oil seal retainer.
11. Install oil pump assembly.
12. Install dowel pin in crankshaft.
13. Install crankshaft sprocket.
14. Install Timing Belt.
15. Install (3) timing belt covers.
16. Install crankshaft damper.
17. Install idler pulley for accessory drive belt.
18. Install oil pick-up tube torque bolt to 28 Nm (250 inch lbs.).
19. Install oil pan torque bolts to 12 Nm (105 inch lbs.).
20. Install engine assembly.
21. Fill engine crankcase with proper amount of oil.
