Timing Cover: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect negative cable from battery.
2. Remove front engine compartment supports.





3. Remove upper radiator crossmember.
4. Disconnect fan module electrical connector.





5. Remove fan module.
6. Remove accessory drive belts.
7. Raise vehicle on hoist and use Special Tool 8191, or equivalent to hold crankshaft damper while removing center bolt.





8. Remove crankshaft damper.
9. Remove the lower belt cover located behind the crankshaft damper.








10. Remove the stamped steel cover. Do not remove the sealer on the cover, it is reusable. If some scaled is missing use Mopar (R) Silicone Rubber Adhesive Sealant or equivalent to replace the missing sealer.
11. Remove generator/power steering belt tensioning pulley and bracket.
12. Remove the left cast cover.

INSTALLATION
1. Install left cast cover and generator/power steering belt tensioning pulley and bracket.
2. Install the right stamped steel cover.
3. Install the lower cover.





4. Install crankshaft damper by tightening the nut of Special Tool 6792, or equivalent. Install center bolt and while holding damper with Special Tool 8191, or equivalent torque center bolt to 115 Nm (85 ft. Lbs.).
5. Install fan module.
6. Install upper radiator crossmember and engine compartment supports.
7. Connect negative battery cable.
