NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES BUILT PRIOR TO JUNE 1, 1998 (MDH 0601XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

1. A growl noise may be heard when A/C compressor is engaged. The noise is most noticeable from inside the vehicle and when the engine is at idle speed.

2. The air filter housing lid is difficult to remove because of A/C suction/liquid line routing.

DIAGNOSIS:

1. Start the engine and let it idle. Select A/C and listen for a growl noise after the A/C compressor engages and continues until the A/C compressor disengages. If the growl noise is heard when the A/C compressor is engaged, perform the Repair Procedure.

2. Inspect the air cleaner housing for adequate clearance with the A/C suction/liquid line below the expansion valve. If clearance is inadequate to allow removal of the air cleaner housing lid, perform the Repair Procedure.
