Muffler: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Raise vehicle on hoist.
2. Remove tailpipes.
3. Apply penetrating oil and loosen Band clamps that retain catalytic converter pipes to the inlet of muffler.
4. Remove muffler.

NOTE: When assembling exhaust do not tighten clamps until components have been properly positioned to clear underbody parts.

INSTALLATION
1. Install muffler to catalytic converter pipes.
2. Install tailpipes.

CAUTION: Band (Torca) clamps should never be tightened such that the two sides of the clamps are bottomed out against the center hourglass shaped reaction block. Once this occurs the clamp has lost its clamping force and must be replaced.

3. Position Band clamps and tighten to 70 Nm (52 ft. lbs.).
4. Lower vehicle.
