Installation
1. Install power steering pump back in vehicle from the bottom of the engine.
2. Install power steering pump back on mounting bracket. Install the 3 bolts mounting power steering pump to mounting bracket. Tighten mounting bolts to a torque of 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.).
3. Install power steering fluid supply hose on power steering pump. Install hose clamp on fluid supply hose. Be sure hose clamp is installed past bead on pump fitting.
4. Install power steering fluid pressure and return hose on steering gear.
5. Be sure power steering hoses do not contact any areas that could cause abrasion to the hose, then tighten the tube nut on both hoses to a torque of 29 Nm (252 inch lbs.).
6. Install drive belt on power steering pump pulley.
7. Lower vehicle.
8. Install power steering pressure hose in outlet port of power steering pump. Tighten the power steering fluid pressure hose fitting to a torque of 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.).
9. Correctly route the serpentine drive belt on remaining pulleys and belt tensioner. Correctly tension the serpentine drive belt.
10. Tighten locknut on idler pulley of serpentine drive belt tensioner.
11. Connect battery cable onto negative post on battery.
CAUTION: Do not use automatic transmission fluid in power steering system. Only use Mopar (R) Power Steering Fluid or equivalent.
12. Fill power steering pump reservoir to correct fluid level.
13. Start the engine and let run for a few seconds, then turn the engine off.
14. Add fluid if necessary. Repeat the above procedure until the fluid level remains constant after running the engine.
15. Raise front wheels of vehicle off the ground.
16. Start the engine. Slowly turn the steering wheel right and left, lightly contacting the wheel stops. Then turn the engine off.
17. Add power steering fluid if necessary.
18. Lower the vehicle and turn the steering wheel slowly from lock to lock.
19. Stop the engine. Check the fluid level and refill as required.
20. If the fluid is extremely foamy, allow the vehicle to stand a few minutes and repeat the above procedure.
21. Check for leaks at all hose connections.
22. Install body side panel. Install and securely tighten the 3 bolts attaching body side panel to vehicle.
