Removal
NOTE: Cap all open ends of the power steering fluid hoses. This will prevent the entry of foreign material into the components when power steering hoses are removed.WARNING: Power steering oil, engine components and the exhaust system may be extremely hot if engine has been running. Do not start engine with any loose or disconnected hoses or drive belts. Do not allow hoses to touch hot exhaust manifold or catalyst.
1. Remove the battery cable from the negative post on the battery and isolate the cable.
2. Using a siphon pump, remove as much power steering fluid as possible from the power steering fluid reservoir.
3. Remove the 3 bolts attaching body side panel. Remove side panel by pulling upward until lower retaining clips come out of valance panel.
4. Remove tension from serpentine drive belt. Drive belt tension is removed using the following procedure. Loosen locknut in center of idler pulley on tensioner. Turn tension adjustment bolt counter-clockwise to relieve tension on serpentine drive belt.
5. Remove power steering fluid pressure hose from discharge fitting on power steering pump.
6. Raise vehicle on jackstands or centered on a frame contact type hoist.
7. Remove the serpentine drive belt from the power steering pump pulley, and store out of the way.
8. Remove hose clamp from supply hose at power steering pump.
9. Remove power steering fluid supply hose from power steering pump.
10. Let remaining power steering fluid drain out of reservoir and power steering pump.
11. Plug power steering fluid supply hose fitting on power steering pump. This will prevent the residual power steering that is left in pump from draining out during pump removal.
12. Remove power steering fluid pressure and return hose from steering gear.
NOTE: Access for the 3 bolts mounting the power steering pump to its mounting bracket is through the holes in the power steering pump pulley.
13. Remove the 3 bolts mounting the power steering pump to its mounting bracket.
14. Remove power steering pump and pulley as an assembly from vehicle. Power steering pump is removed from the bottom of the engine.
15. Transfer the required parts from the removed power steering pump, to the replacement power steering pump.
