Inspect the lower control arm for signs of damage from contact with the ground or road debris. If the lower control arm shows any sign of damage, inspect lower control arm for distortion. If damaged, no attempt should ever be made to straighten or repair a bent or broken lower control arm. The lower control arm must be serviced only by the replacement of the entire control arm. The replacement lower control arm will include the control arm isolator bushings and the ball joint. The shock absorber mounting bracket will need to be transferred fron1 the original to the replacement lower control arm.
Inspect both control arm isolator bushings for severe deterioration, and replace the control arm if during inspection the bushings require replacement. Inspect the shock absorber mounting bracket/isolator bushing for signs of damage and/or deterioration of the isolator bushing, and replace if required. Service procedures to replace these components are detailed in the specific component removal and installation sections in this group of the service manual.
NOTE: The only replaceable component of the lower control arm is the shock absorber mounting isolator bushing/bracket.
