Cylinder Head Replacement - Left Side (LHD)

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution (Battery Disconnect Caution) .
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Service and Repair) .
2. Remove the air inlet grille panel. Refer to Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement (Service and Repair) .
3. Remove the engine covers. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement (Service and Repair) .
4. Remove the left camshaft cover. Refer to Camshaft Cover Replacement - Left Side (Camshaft Cover Replacement - Left Side) .
5. Remove the left bank secondary timing chain. Refer to Secondary Camshaft Drive Chain Replacement - Left Side (Secondary Camshaft Intermediate Drive Chain Replacement - Left) .
6. Remove the oil level indicator. Refer to Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement (Service and Repair) .




7. Disconnect the coolant temperature sensor electrical connector (1).




8. Remove the wiring harness ground to cylinder head retaining bolt (3).
9. Remove the wiring harness ground (1) from the cylinder head (2).
10. Remove the upper intake manifold with the lower intake manifold. Refer to Lower Intake Manifold Replacement (Service and Repair) .




11. Remove the left engine cover mounting bracket to cylinder head retaining bolt (2).
12. Remove the left engine cover mounting bracket (2) from the cylinder head.




13. Remove the engine wiring harness bracket to cylinder head retaining bolts (1).
14. Remove the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (6.0L Engine) (Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (6.0L Engine))Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (3.6L Engine) (Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (3.6L Engine)) .





Important: DO NOT remove the oil filter adapter.


15. Remove the oil filter adapter upper bolt (1).
16. Remove the cylinder head with the exhaust manifold. Refer to Cylinder Head Removal - Left Side (Overhaul) .





Important: Cylinder head gaskets must be discarded whenever the cylinder head has been removed from the cylinder block.


17. Remove the cylinder head gasket (1).
Discard the gasket.
18. Clean and inspect the cylinder head and the cylinder block sealing surfaces. Refer to Cylinder Head Cleaning and Inspection (Overhaul) andEngine Block Cleaning and Inspection (Overhaul) .
19. If necessary, perform the following steps:

* Remove the exhaust manifold from the cylinder head. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Removal - Left Side (Overhaul) .
* Disassemble the cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head Disassemble (Overhaul) .




Installation Procedure

1. If necessary, perform the following steps:

* Assemble the cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head Assemble (Overhaul) .
* Install the exhaust manifold to the cylinder head. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Installation - Left Side (Overhaul) .





2. Install a NEW cylinder head gasket (1).
3. Install the cylinder head with the exhaust manifold to the engine. Refer to Cylinder Head Installation - Left Side (Overhaul) .





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice) .

4. Install the oil filter adapter upper retaining bolt (1).

Tighten the bolt to 65 N.m (48 lb in).

5. Install the catalytic converter to the exhaust manifold. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (6.0L Engine) (Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (6.0L Engine))Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (3.6L Engine) (Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (3.6L Engine)) .




6. Install the wiring harness bracket (2) to the rear of the cylinder head (3).
7. Install the wiring harness bracket to cylinder head retaining bolts (1).

Tighten the bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).





8. Install the left engine cover mounting bracket (2) to the cylinder head.
9. Install the left engine cover mounting bracket to cylinder head retaining bolt (2).

Tighten the bolt to 35 N.m (26 lb in).

10. Install the left engine cover mounting bracket to cylinder head retaining bolt (2).
11. Install the upper intake manifold with the lower intake manifold. Refer to Lower Intake Manifold Replacement (Service and Repair) .




12. Install the wiring harness ground (1) to the cylinder head (2).
13. Install the wiring harness ground to cylinder head retaining bolt (3).

Tighten the bolt to 10 N.m (89 lb in).





14. Connect the coolant temperature sensor electrical connector (1).
15. Install the oil level indicator. Refer to Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement (Service and Repair) .
16. Install the left bank secondary timing chain. Refer to Secondary Camshaft Drive Chain Replacement - Left Side (Secondary Camshaft Intermediate Drive Chain Replacement - Left) .
17. Install the left camshaft cover. Refer to Camshaft Cover Replacement - Left Side (Camshaft Cover Replacement - Left Side) .
18. Install the engine covers. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement (Service and Repair) .
19. Install the air inlet grille panel. Refer to Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement (Service and Repair) .
20. Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Service and Repair) .
