Piston and Connecting Rod Disassemble
Notice: Use a piston ring expander to install the piston rings. The rings may be damaged if expanded more than necessary.
1. Remove the piston rings (1) from the piston (3) using a piston ring expander (2). Place each ring in a clean shop towel for storage.
2. Rotate the piston pin retainer until the ring end gap is positioned in the cutout area (1) of the pin bore.
3. Remove the retainers starting in the cutout area of the pin bore.
Important: The piston and pin are a matched set and are not to be serviced separately. Use a paint or marker pen and mark the orientation of the piston to the connecting rod and the bore number from which it was removed.
4. Remove the pin from the piston and connecting rod.
