Front Coil Springs Replacement
Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to Safety Glasses Caution (Safety Glasses Warning) .
Caution: Refer to Vehicle Lifting Caution (Service Precautions) .
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair) .
2. Remove the front wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair) .
3. Remove the front strut assembly. Refer to Strut Replacement (Front Suspension Strut)
4. Remove the strut assembly support bearing and mount. Refer to Front Suspension Strut Mount and Bearing Replacement (Front Suspension) .
5. Remove the dust boot upper retaining clamp (6).
Discard the clamp.
6. Remove the coil spring seat (1) and coil spring insulator (2).
7. Remove the coil spring (5) from the strut unit (4) and release the spring compressor (3).
8. Inspect all parts for wear and damage.
Installation Procedure
Notice: If installing a replacement coil spring, check that the coil spring is the correct type for the suspension system fitted to the vehicle. Identification of the front coil spring fitted to a particular vehicle can be achieved by cross-referencing the two digit code provided on the production identification tag (1) with the data in Front Spring Specifications refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications (Front Suspension) . Fitting the wrong coil spring may adversely affect the wheel alignment and/or the ride and handling characteristics of the vehicle.
1. Make sure that all components have been cleaned and inspected.
2. Install the spring compressor (3) to the coil spring (2) and compress coil spring.
3. Install the coil spring (2) to the strut unit (4).
Important: The coil spring insulator (2) and seat (1) have a step which locates on to the straight projecting end of the spring. The step must be correctly orientated in relation to the spring.
4. Install the coil spring insulator (2) and coil spring seat (1).
Important: Align the mark on the spring seat with the mark on the strut unit when installing, with straight projecting end of the spring correctly located in the coil spring insulator (2) and seat (1).
5. Position the coil spring (5) and spring seat on the strut unit (4).
6. Install the NEW dust boot upper retaining clamp (6) securing the dust boot to the coil spring seat (1).
7. Install the strut assembly support bearing and mount. Refer to Front Suspension Strut Mount and Bearing Replacement (Front Suspension)
8. Install the front strut assembly. Refer to Strut Replacement (Front Suspension Strut) .
9. Install the front wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair) .
10. Remove the safety stands.
11. Lower the vehicle to the ground.
