Steering Wheel Position Sensor Replacement
Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to SIR Caution (SIR Caution).
1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling (Service and Repair).
2. Place the front wheels in the straight ahead position.
3. Remove the steering wheel from the steering column. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement (Steering Wheel Replacement).
4. Remove the 3 screws and the steering column lower trim cover (6) from the steering column.
5. Disconnect the steering wheel module coil electrical connector (1).
6. Disconnect the steering wheel position sensor electrical connector.
7. Slide the steering column upper cover, release the 3 claws (2) and remove the steering wheel module coil (1).
8. Remove the steering wheel position sensor from the steering wheel module coil.
Installation Procedure
1. Ensure the front wheels are in the straight ahead position.
Important: Make sure the turn signal switch is in the neutral position or turn signal switch pin may be damaged.
2. Place the turn signal switch in the neutral position.
3. Install the steering wheel position sensor to the steering wheel module coil.
Important: When installing a new steering wheel module coil, remove the lock pin prior to installing the handle.
4. Install the steering wheel module coil (1) and engage all 3 retaining claws (2).
5. Center the steering wheel module coil, if necessary. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Centering (Procedures).
6. Connect the steering wheel position sensor electrical connector.
7. Connect the steering wheel module coil electrical connector (1).
8. Install the steering column lower trim cover (6). Secure with 3 screws.
9. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement (Steering Wheel Replacement).
10. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling (Service and Repair).
