Water Pump Replacement

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution (Battery Disconnect Caution).
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (Service and Repair).
3. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement (Service and Repair).
4. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service Intervals).
5. Remove the right side lower engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement - Right Side (Engine Splash Shield Replacement - Right Side).
6. Remove the left side lower engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement - Left Side (Engine Splash Shield Replacement - Left Side).
7. Remove the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement (Generator Replacement).
8. On LV6 engine, remove the water pump pulley.




9. On all engines, remove the following components from the vehicle:

* The 6 water pump bolts (1, 2)
* The water pump

10. Remove the O-ring from the vehicle.



Installation Procedure





1. Install a new O-ring to the vehicle.
2. Install the water pump to the vehicle.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice).

3. Use 6 bolts (1, 2) in order to secure the water pump.

* On LV6 engine, tighten the water pump bolts (1) to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
* Tighten the water pump bolts (2) to 11 N.m (8 lb ft).
* On LNK engine, tighten the water pump bolts to 9 N.m (80 lb in).


4. Install the left side lower engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement - Left Side (Engine Splash Shield Replacement - Left Side).
5. Install the right side lower engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement - Right Side (Engine Splash Shield Replacement - Right Side).
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. On LV6 engine, install the water pump pulley.

Tighten the water pump pulley bolts to 15 N.m (11 lb ft).

8. On all engines, install the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement (Generator Replacement).
9. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement (Service and Repair).
Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution (Battery Disconnect Caution).
10. Connect the negative battery cable.
11. Use approved engine coolant in order to fill the radiator. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (Service and Repair).
12. Start the engine.
13. Inspect the system for leaks.
