EN 46101 Spark Plug Tube Seal Guide

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the ignition coils. Refer to Ignition Coil Replacement - Bank 1 (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the upper intake manifold. Refer to Upper Intake Manifold Replacement (Service and Repair).
3. Unbolt Power Steering Pump, leave the hose power steering pump.Power Steering Pump Replacement (LZ4, LZ9) (Service and Repair)
4. Disconnect and remove the engine harness from the camshaft cover.




5. Remove the right camshaft cover bolts.
6. Remove the right camshaft cover from the right cylinder head.
7. Clean the mating surfaces of the cylinder head and the camshaft cover. Refer to Camshaft Cover Cleaning and Inspection ().




8. Install the EN 46101 onto the spark plug tubes of the left cylinder head.

Installation Procedure




1. Install new camshaft cover bolt grommets prior to installing the camshaft cover bolts.




2. Place a bead 8 mm (0.3150 in) in diameter by 4 mm (0.1575 in) in height of RTV sealant, GM P/N 12378521 (Canadian P/N 88901148) or equivalent, on the engine front cover split lines (1).




3. Place the right camshaft cover into position onto the right cylinder head.




4. Loosely install the right camshaft cover bolts.





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

5. Tighten the right camshaft cover bolts in the sequence shown.

Tighten the left camshaft cover bolts in the sequence to 10 Nm (89 lb in).

6. Connect and install the engine harness to the camshaft cover.
7. Install the upper intake manifold. Refer to Upper Intake Manifold Replacement (Service and Repair).




8. Remove the EN 46101 from the spark plug tubes of the right cylinder head.
9. Install the ignition coils. Refer to Ignition Coil Replacement - Bank 1 (Service and Repair).
