Rear Compartment Lid Strut Replacement

Removal Procedure

Note: When a suitable hold open device is being removed or installed, provide alternate support to avoid the possibility of damage to the vehicle or personal injury.

1. Support the rear compartment lid with a suitable brace.





Caution: Apply pressure only at the end of the liftgate/hood assist rod that you are removing or attaching. Do NOT apply pressure to the middle of the rod because damage or bending will result.

2. Using a suitable tool, release the rear compartment lid strut to the lower strut stud retaining clip (1).




3. Using a suitable tool, release the rear compartment lid strut to the upper strut stud retaining clip (1).
4. Remove the rear compartment lid strut (2) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure




1. Press the rear compartment lid strut (2) onto the upper strut stud.
2. Install the rear compartment lid strut stud retaining clip (1) to the rear compartment lid strut.





Caution: Apply pressure only at the end of the liftgate/hood assist rod that you are removing or attaching. Do NOT apply pressure to the middle of the rod because damage or bending will result.

3. Press the rear compartment lid strut (2) onto the lower strut stud.
4. Install the rear compartment lid strut stud retaining clip (1) to the rear compartment lid strut.
5. Make sure that both clips are fully seated on the rear compartment lid strut.
6. Remove the suitable brace from the vehicle.
