Front Crankshaft Seal: Service and Repair




Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Replacement

Tools Required

J 29184 Oil Seal Installer

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement (Service and Repair).





Important: DO NOT damage the sealing surfaces of the front cover or the crankshaft when prying the crankshaft front oil seal for removal. Damaging the sealing surface may cause leakage or require replacement of the damaged component.


3. Use a flat-bladed tool in order to remove the crankshaft oil seal (1).

Installation Procedure





Important: DO NOT lubricate the crankshaft front oil seal or the crankshaft balancer sealing surfaces.


1. Use the J 29184 (1) or equivalent to install the crankshaft front oil seal (2).
2. Install the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Installation (Overhaul).
3. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement (Service and Repair).
