Oil Level Sensor: Service and Repair
Engine Oil Level Sensor and/or Switch Replacement
Removal Procedure
Warning: Refer to Safety Glasses Warning (Safety Glasses Warning).
Danger: To avoid any vehicle damage, serious personal injury or death when major components are removed from the vehicle and the vehicle is supported by a hoist, support the vehicle with jack stands at the opposite end from which the components are being removed and strap the vehicle to the hoist.
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the Engine Splash Shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement (Service and Repair).
3. Drain the engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement (Service and Repair).
4. Disconnect the engine oil level switch electrical connector (2).
5. Remove the engine oil level switch to oil pan retaining bolt (4).
6. Remove the engine oil level switch (3) from the oil pan (1).
Installation Procedure
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).
1. Install the engine oil level switch bolt (2) to the oil pan (3) and tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb ft).
2. Connect the engine oil level switch electrical connector (1).
3. Install the front air deflector. Refer to Front Air Deflector Replacement (Service and Repair).
4. Lower the vehicle.
5. Fill the engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement (Service and Repair).
6. Inspect for oil leaks after engine start up.
7. Reset the GM Oil Life System. Refer to GM Oil Life System Resetting (Service and Repair).
