Engine Front Cover Installation

Special Tools
* EN 46109 - Guide Pin Set
* J 45059 - Angle Meter
For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools (Special Tools).




1. Install the 8 mm (0.315 in) guide from the EN 46109 - set (1) into the cylinder block positions as shown.




2. Install the NEW engine front cover to cylinder block seal (1).




3. Place a 3 mm (0.118 in) bead of RTV sealant (1), on the engine front cover as shown.




4. Place the engine front cover (1) onto the EN 46109 - set and slide into position.
5. Remove the EN 46109 - set from the cylinder block.





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

6. Hand start all the engine front cover to cylinder block retaining bolts (1).




7. Tighten the engine front cover to cylinder block retaining bolts in the sequence shown.

1. Tighten the bolts a first pass in sequence to 20 Nm (17 lb ft).
2. Tighten the bolts a second pass in sequence an additional 60 degrees using the J 45059 - meter.

8. Install NEW O-rings on the camshaft position sensors.




9. Install the camshaft position sensors (2).
10. Install the camshaft position sensor to front cover retaining bolts (1) and tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb in).





Note: LE0 and LW2 engines only have intake camshaft position actuator solenoids.

11. Install the camshaft position actuator solenoids (2).
12. Install the camshaft position actuator solenoid to front cover retaining bolts (1).

1. Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (89 lb in).
2. Tighten the bolts a second pass in sequence an additional 60 degrees using the J 45059 - meter.
