Camshaft Cover Installation - Left Side

Special Tools
* EN 46101 - Spark Plug Tube Seal Guide
* EN 46105 - Camshaft Locking Tools For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools (Special Tools).




1. Remove the EN 46105 - tools (2) from the rear of the left hand camshafts (1).




2. Install the EN 46101 - guide (1) onto the spark plug tubes of the left cylinder head.
3. Install the camshaft cover bolt grommets prior to installing the camshaft cover bolts.
4. Wipe the camshaft cover sealing surface on the left cylinder head with a clean, lint-free cloth.





Note: Make sure the sealing surfaces of the cylinder head and camshaft cover are clean.

5. Place a 3 mm bead of RTV sealant (1) on the join line between the engine front cover and the cylinder head.
6. Install a NEW camshaft cover seal and NEW grommets.




7. Install the camshaft cover (2) from the cylinder head (3).
8. Loosely install the left camshaft cover to cylinder head retaining bolts (1).





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

9. Tighten the left camshaft cover to cylinder head retaining bolts in the sequence shown and tighten in sequence to 10 Nm (89 lb in).




10. Remove the EN 46101 - guide (1) from the spark plug tubes of the left cylinder head.




11. Install the spark plugs (1).





Note: DO NOT damage the spark plug and/or the seal in the left camshaft cover or an engine misfire condition may result.

12. Install the ignition coils (2) to the camshaft cover (3).
13. Install each ignition coil to camshaft cover retaining bolt (1) and tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb in).
