Fuel Pump: Service and Repair




Fuel Tank Fuel Pump Module Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Ignition OFF.
Warning: Refer to Battery Disconnect Warning (Battery Disconnect Warning) in Cautions and Notices.

2. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Service and Repair).

Danger: To avoid any vehicle damage, serious personal injury or death, always use the jackstands to support the vehicle when lifting the vehicle with a jack.

Warning: Refer to Safety Glasses Warning (Safety Glasses Warning) Safety Glasses Warning.

3. Remove the fuel tank assembly. Refer to Fuel Tank Replacement (Service and Repair).
4. Remove the primary fuel tank module assembly from the fuel tank. Refer to Primary Fuel Tank Module Replacement (Service and Repair).
5. Remove the fuel level sensor from the primary fuel tank module assembly. Refer to Fuel Level Sensor Replacement (Service and Repair).
6. Remove the fuel filter from the fuel pump housing. Refer to Fuel Filter Replacement (Service and Repair).




7. Disconnect the fuel pump connector (1) from the fuel pump (4).

Note: Do not push the fuel pump (4) out of the fuel pump housing (2) at the fuel pump electrical connector (6).

8. Using a suitable tool pull at the fuel pump extension (5) to remove the fuel pump (4) from the fuel pump housing (2).
9. Remove the fuel pump (4) from the fuel pump housing (2).
10. Remove and discard the fuel pump seal (3).

Installation Procedure




1. Install a NEW fuel pump seal (3)

Note: Align the fuel pump electrical connector (6) with the fuel pump housing (2).

2. Install the fuel pump (4) to the fuel pump housing (2).

Note: Listen for and audible click to confirm the correct installation of the fuel pump (4) to fuel pump housing (2).

3. Apply suitable pressure at the fuel pump extension (5) to install the fuel pump (4) to the fuel pump housing (2).
4. Connect the fuel pump connector (1) to the fuel pump (4).
5. Install the fuel filter. Refer to Fuel Filter Replacement (Service and Repair).
6. Install the fuel level sensor to the primary fuel tank module assembly. Refer to Fuel Level Sensor Replacement (Service and Repair).
7. Install the primary fuel tank module assembly to the fuel tank assembly. Refer to Primary Fuel Tank Module Replacement (Service and Repair).
8. Install the fuel tank assembly. Refer to Fuel Tank Replacement (Service and Repair).
9. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Service and Repair).
