Stabilizer Shaft Replacement

Removal Procedure

Warning: Refer to Safety Glasses Warning (Safety Glasses Warning).


Danger: To avoid any vehicle damage, serious personal injury or death when major components are removed from the vehicle and the vehicle is supported by a hoist, support the vehicle with jack stands at the opposite end from which the components are being removed and strap the vehicle to the hoist.


1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the driver side front wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).




3. Remove and discard the stabilizer bar link to stabilizer bar retaining nut (1).
4. Disconnect the stabilizer bar link (2) from the stabilizer bar (3).
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for the opposite side of the stabilizer bar.




6. Loosen the tie rod end to steering knuckle retaining nut (1) about two turns.




7. Using J-42188-B (1) disconnect the driver side tie rod end (3) from the steering knuckle (2).




8. Remove and discard the driver side tie rod end to steering knuckle retaining nut (1).
9. Separate the driver side tie rod end (3) from the steering knuckle (2).




10. Remove the air inlet duct.

* For 3.6L engine refer to Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement (Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement).
* For 6.0L engine refer to Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement (Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement).

11. Remove the power steering gear inlet pipe bracket to subframe retaining bolt (2).
12. Remove the power steering gear outlet pipe bracket to subframe retaining bolt (1).
13. Remove the stabilizer bar insulators from the stabilizer bar. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Insulator Replacement (Front Suspension).
14. Remove the stabilizer bar from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

Caution: If installing a replacement stabilizer bar, check that the stabilizer bar is the correct type for the suspension system fitted to the vehicle. Identification of the stabilizer bar fitted to a particular vehicle can be achieved by cross-referencing the two digit code provided on the production identification tag with the data in Fastener Tightening Specifications (Front Suspension). Fitting the wrong stabilizer bar may adversely affect the ride and handling characteristics of the vehicle.

1. Install the NEW stabilizer bar to the vehicle.
2. Install the stabilizer bar insulators. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Insulator Replacement (Front Suspension).





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

3. Install the power steering gear inlet pipe bracket to the subframe retaining bolt (2) and tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb in).
4. Install the power steering gear outlet pipe bracket to the subframe retaining bolt (1) and tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb ft).
5. Install the air inlet duct.

* For 3.6L engine refer to Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement (Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement).
* For 6.0L engine refer to Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement (Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement).




6. Connect the stabilizer bar link (2) to the NEW stabilizer bar (3).
7. Install the stabilizer bar link to the stabilizer bar retaining nut (1) and tighten to 50 Nm (37 lb ft).
8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 for the opposite side of the stabilizer bar.




9. Install the driver side tie rod end (3) to the steering knuckle (2).
10. Install the NEW driver side tie rod end to steering knuckle retaining nut (1) and tighten to 70 Nm (52 lb ft).
11. Install the front wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
12. Lower the vehicle.
