Mainshaft Rear Oil Seal Replacement

Tools Required
* J 23907 Slide Hammer
* J 23129 Universal Seal Remover
* J 29873 Injector Nozzle Socket 30 mm
* J 44765 Seal Installer
* J 45012 Holding Fixture
* J 45019 Flange and Pinion Gage Remover

Removal Procedure

Danger: To avoid any vehicle damage, serious personal injury or death when major components are removed from the vehicle and the vehicle is supported by a hoist, support the vehicle with jack stands at the opposite end from which the components are being removed and strap the vehicle to the hoist.


Warning: Refer to Safety Glasses Warning (Safety Glasses Warning)

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the exhaust system. Refer to Exhaust System Replacement (V8 - For Access) (Exhaust System Replacement (For Access))Exhaust System Replacement (V8 - Complete) (Exhaust System Replacement (Complete))Exhaust System Replacement (V6 - For Access) (Exhaust System Replacement (For Access))Exhaust System Replacement (V6 - Complete) (Exhaust System Replacement (Complete)).
3. Remove the propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement (Propeller Shaft Replacement).




4. Install the J 45012 (3) to the drive flange (2).
5. Install the J 45012 retaining bolts (4).

Note: Finger tighten the J 45012 retaining nuts (1).

6. Install the J 45012 retaining nuts (1).




7. Hold the J 45012 (5) and remove the drive flange retaining nut (2) from the drive flange (4) using the J 29873 (1)
8. Discard the drive flange retaining nut (2).
9. Remove the drive flange thrust washer (3).




10. Remove the J 45012 retaining nuts (1).
11. Remove the J 45012 retaining bolts (4).
12. Remove the J 45012 (3) from the drive flange (2).




13. Install the J 45019 (2) to the drive flange (4).
14. Install the J 45019 retaining bolts (1).
15. Install the J 45019 spacers (3).

Note: Finger tighten the J 45019 nuts (5)

16. Install the J 45019 nuts (5).
17. Remove the drive flange (4) using the J 45019 .




18. Remove the mainshaft rear oil seal (1) from the transmission extension using the J 23907 (3) and J 23129 (2).

Installation Procedure





Note: Install the NEW mainshaft rear oil seal (1) to the J 44765 (2) before installing the mainshaft rear oil seal (1) to the transmission extension.

1. Install the NEW mainshaft rear oil seal (1) to the transmission extension using J 44765 (2).




2. Install the drive flange (2) to the transmission output shaft (1).




3. Install the J 45012 (3) to the drive flange (2).
4. Install the J 45012 retaining bolts (4).

Note: Hand tighten the J 45012 retaining nuts (1).

5. Install the J 45012 retaining nuts (1)




6. Install the drive flange thrust washer (3).

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution)

7. Install the NEW drive flange retaining nut (2) to the drive flange (4).
8. Hold the J 45012 (5) and tighten the NEW drive flange retaining nut (2) to 135 Nm (100 lb ft) using J 29873 (1).




9. Remove the J 45012 retaining nuts (1).
10. Remove the J 45012 retaining bolts (4).
11. Remove the J 45012 (3) from the drive flange (2).
12. Install the propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement (Propeller Shaft Replacement).
13. Install the exhaust system. Refer to Exhaust System Replacement (V8 - For Access) (Exhaust System Replacement (For Access))Exhaust System Replacement (V8 - Complete) (Exhaust System Replacement (Complete))Exhaust System Replacement (V6 - For Access) (Exhaust System Replacement (For Access))Exhaust System Replacement (V6 - Complete) (Exhaust System Replacement (Complete)).
14. Lower the vehicle.
