Shift Shaft and Fork Assemblies Cleaning and Inspection





Warning

Wear safety glasses to avoid injury when using compressed air or any cleaning solvent. Bodily injury may occur if fumes are inhaled or if skin is exposed to chemicals.

1. Disassemble the shift shaft and fork assemblies.
2. Clean the following parts with a suitable solvent and air dry all the parts.

* Offset Shift Lever (1)
* Offset Shift Lever Pin (2)
* Control Select Arm Pin (3)
* Control Select Arm (4)
* 3rd/4th Shift Fork Assembly (5)
* Gear Select Interlock Plate (6)
* Select Control Lever Assembly (7)
* Select Control Lever Assembly Pin (8)
* 1st/2nd/3rd/4th Shift Shaft (9)
* 1st/2nd Shift Fork Assembly (10)
* 1st/2nd Shift Fork Insert (11)
* 3rd/4th Shift Fork Insert (12)
* 1st/2nd/3rd/4th Shift Rail Assembly (13)
* 5th, 6th, and Reverse Shift Rail Assembly (14)
* Reverse Shift Lever (15)
* Reverse Shift Lever Pin (16)
* 5th and Reverse Shift Fork Insert (17)
* 5th/6th Shift Lever Retaining Ring (18)
* Shift Shaft Bushing (19)
* 5th/6th Shift Lever Assembly (20)
* Shift Shaft Bushing (21)
* 5th, 6th, and Reverse Shift Shaft (22)
* Transmission Reverse Shift Lever Collar (23)
* Reverse Shift Collar Pin (24)

3. Inspect all the parts for excessive wear, fractures or distortion.




4. Inspect the shift shaft lever bushings for excessive wear.




5. Inspect the shift fork nylon inserts for wear.
6. Replace parts that are fractured, excessively worn, or distorted.
7. Replace an excessively worn or burred shift shaft.
