Coolant Heater Replacement (6.0L)
Removal Procedure
Warning: Refer to Battery Disconnect Warning (Battery Disconnect Warning).
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Service and Repair).
2. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (3.6 L) (Service and Repair)Cooling System Draining and Filling (6.0 L) (Service and Repair).
Danger: To avoid any vehicle damage, serious personal injury or death when major components are removed from the vehicle and the vehicle is supported by a hoist, support the vehicle with jack stands at the opposite end from which the components are being removed and strap the vehicle to the hoist.
Warning: Refer to Safety Glasses Warning (Safety Glasses Warning).
3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
4. Disconnect the coolant heater cord electrical connector (1).
Note: Do not score the surface of the engine block hole (2) when removing the coolant heater (1).
5. Remove the coolant heater (1) from the engine block (2).
Installation Procedure
1. If reusing the old coolant heater (1), apply thread sealant GM P/N 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480), or equivalent to the threads.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).
2. Install the coolant heater (1) to the engine block (2) and tighten to 50 Nm (37 lb ft).
3. Connect the coolant heater cord electrical connector (1).
4. Lower the vehicle.
5. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (3.6 L) (Service and Repair)Cooling System Draining and Filling (6.0 L) (Service and Repair).
6. Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Service and Repair).
